One of my main winter skin concern is a redness, especially on the checks and under the nose area. My skin is quite sensitive, thin, has broken cappillars and prone to redness, which mostly appears  in extreme temperature seasons – hot summers and cold winters. Winters are even worse! Most winter time I’m thinking how to cover and how to treat my red zones. I understand  that serious treatment should be done my dermatologist (like laser or some light pulse therapy) but I always try to avoid doctor’s intervention and find at least temporary solution which would satisfy my needs for certain period of time. Like Scarlett O’Hara I prefer to think about medical methods tomorrow. And tomorrow never comes.

This winter my rehab program for redness skin is based on two products: One Love Organics O Mega Serum and Lyonsleaf Calendula Cream.

First serum (which is basically oil) I received in October’s box from Art of Organics. It stands for all skin types but especially for dry and sensitive. Star ingredient of the serum is a very rich in omegas chia oil. This “ultra-calming blend” of organic chia oil, shea butter, aloe extract and lavender essential oil is packed with essential fatty acids, powerful antioxidants and a plant-based probiotic complex to effectively nourish even the most sensitive, dry and irritable skin types. And it does!

O Mega is very versatile product and could be used alone on wet skin or mixed with cream, another serum or oil or even into foundation! I didn’t try it with my foundation but all other uses are working for me.

The texture is nice and not heavy, greasy or sticky. It absorbs very well and has light and relaxing smell of lavender. My skin loves this serum but the only concern I have is my eye area. Unfortunately not all oils can be used around my eyes because they may cause upper lids puffiness or redness. The chia oil is one of them, and I should very carefully apply it on my face trying totally avoid eye area.

Ingredientssalvia hispanica (chia) seed extract* (and) rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract*, butyrospermum parkii (shea) oil*, camellia sinensis (green tea) seed oil*, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil*, limnanthes alba (meadowfoam) seed oil, aloe barbadensis leaf extract*, lactobacillus/salix alba bark ferment filtrate, lavandula angustifolia (lavender) essential oil*

Second product I received from Lovelula as a part of Lyonsleaf Face Savior Set (post here). The cream is actually waterless balm, golden-orange like warm summer sun or marigold (calendula) flower.

Calendula Cream is a “targeted anti-inflammatory emollient for problem skin”. It is absolutely universal and suitable for all skin types and for all ages (children over 3 years old). The balm soothes, repairs and prevents skin dryness. It helps to heals scars and reduce any irritations and inflammations. It could be use to treat eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, acne, any type of dermatitis, nettle rash, heat rash, insect bites, allergic reactions, blemishes, dry or chapped skin, skin damaged from excessive contact with water, by chemicals or substances like cement, minor abrasions, stretch marks, new tattoos, post surgery , and even post radiation therapy. Impressive, isn’t?!

The texture is silky, not very oily. The balm glides very well on skin surface, absorbs pretty quickly and doesn’t leave sticky feeling. It has subtle herbal smell, very pleasant but light.

Ingredientsprunus amygdalus dulcis [cold pressed almond oil] • butyrospermum parkii [organic shea butter] • prunus americana [cold pressed apricot kernel oil] • calendula officinalis • [calendula flower extract] • borogo officinalis [cold pressed borage oil] • tocopherol [vitamin E oil] • juniperus communis [juniper essential oil] • boswellia serrata [frankincense essential oil] • lavendula angustifiolia [lavender essential oil] • pelargonium graveolens [geranium essential oil] note: the essential oils naturally contain: citral, citronellol, eugenol, geraniol, limonene, linolool

Both, serum and balm, are for day and night use. I always apply these products on damp skin generous sprayed by toner or hydrosol. First on my palm I mix 3-4 drops of O Mega serum with 1-2 spray of hydrosol and then slightly massaging it into my face. After that I warm teeny-tiny amount of balm and gently press it in over my cheeks and under nose. What’s all. I don’t need any additional cream over that balm but, if outside sunny, I like to use my face sunscreen.

How do you treat your red-prone skin during harsh winter time?  Any secrets?

Don’t forget protect your skin!

With love,

Renata
